Tate

There are moments in life that are so pivotal one inch in any direction can take you on a thousand different paths. For Tate, that moment is deciding to leave home, to leave the man who claims to love him, and the mother who never has.

Calling his dad out of the blue is a risk he’s willing to take. It’s that or stay put, maybe push on for a few more years, but no doubt succumbing to everything trying to tear him down. With one call, Tate sets off to Alabama, a place so different from the home he knows, and to a person who may force him to confront the reality of his past.

 

Wren

His main drive in life? Hide. Blend. Scarred from a terrible accident, Wren locks away aspects of himself behind friends and a future he’s not sure he really wants. The scars are deep, but so are the secrets and dreams he carries. So deep, in fact, he may never let them see the light of day.

When his stepdad’s estranged son comes to live with them, Wren sees him as a complication. Someone it will be hard to hide from. What he never imagines is someone who will make him face all the hard choices he has hidden from so effectively. Someone who will make him face himself.

 

Both are plagued by demons forcing them to hold the world at arm’s length, but sometimes the answer is letting the right person in.
